Health, Emergency & Frontline Workers

Jules Molloy/Derek Kilbourn
When the plea was sent out “to stay home and do nothing” many people on Gabriola sprung to action to ensure important services were still operating and functioning in a different way. Our medical clinic, doctors, health care workers, paramedics, volunteer firefighters, first responders, Gabriola Elementary School principal and teachers, BC Ferries staff, and volunteer organizers came together to make sure our systems wouldn’t fail if the situation worsened. It was unfamiliar territory for many people, but everyone worked together to find solutions, advocate for support and map out new ways of organizing in an emergency. Thank you to all health and emergency professionals, frontline workers, and volunteers who helped to ensure our crucial systems of health, education, and transportation remained operating.
